Wow, I was feeling nostalgic today so I cracked open our senior yearbook. High school seems to have taken place so long ago. I was looking at all the faces of everyone in our class, and I was just wondering how everyone was doing. Maybe someone should plan a class reunion thingy-ma-bob during Christmas break. That'd be cool to catch up with everyone and see how they're doing ...

I was reading an article by John Fischer today entitled, "Why are we here?" The article did not not tell me of anything that I didn't know, but it did get me thinking a lot. "How do we manage to stay holy while still maintaining a real connection to the world around us," Fischer asks. While some Christians feel that it is their purpose in life to just lead lead holy life and avoid any contact with sinners in the world, this should not be our way of thinking.

Fischer writes, "If we are representatives of Jesus Christ, we are here for more than ourselves." We represent Christ here on Earth. Since we represent Christ, we cannot shy away from people or places in this world we deem as "bad." We must be in this world but not of it. We must not let the evil of this world affect us and make us weaker Christians, but neither should we avoid the things of this world because they are evil.

Jesus Christ kept company with sinners. He ate at the houses of tax-collectors; he talked with adulterers and prostitutes. Jesus did not close His eyes to the world and to the evil around Him. Instead, He was filled with compassion for these people.

Living in this world, we are not here for ourselves. We represent Christ, and God desires Christ to be made known unto all people. We are here to reach others. Jesus commanded us to "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every nation." I have to remember that I can't avoid people just because they seem too bad and corrupted. Jesus came to die for these people as well as for me.

"Jesus found a place of compassion for sinners in His heart because He knew He was going to die for them. We can find the same place in our hearts because we know He already did. He died for them, and He died for us. That doesn't make us any different than any other sinner out there. You know, someone's got to keepcompany with me, and I'm not exactly perfect. Besides, there isn't any company so bad that Jesus can't make it good. And that, my friend, is why we're still here."

God could have chosen to remove us from this world, but we are here for a purpose: to reach others for Him. We must have cultural and spiritual maturity in order to stay holy while maintaining a relationship with the world around us. Something I'm trying to work on.

I was catching up on my Dilbert comic books this weekend. They're HILARIOUS!

Pointy Haired Boss: Your analysis disagrees with my intuition.
Dilbert: Your intuition also told you the internet would be replaced by modems ... whatever that means
Pointy Haired Boss: I'm misunderstood, just like ... um ... what's-his-face.
Dilbert: Satan?

Pointy Haired Boss: Before I eat a sandwich, I always remove the useless edges of the bread. That tells you what kind of manager I am.
Asok: You're the anti-crust?

HAHAHAHA! Okay, well maybe you have to see the actual strip, but I find it HILARIOUS!

"God is in the business of changing the face of the world. He wipes away the tears. He mops away the perspiration. He softens our furrowed brows. He touches our cheeks. He changes our faces as we worship." -Max Lucado.

I want to get one of his books. That quote was from one of his devotionals that I'm thinking about getting.

It's not until Christ is all you have that you really discover Christ is all you need.

I've just been thinking about how much I take my relationship with Christ for granted. Living here in America, we've all got it pretty good. We don't have to worry about being persecuted for our beliefs. None of us are starving or in want. This just got me thinking about how strong people's faith is in countries where they are persecuted for their beliefs. I think that with all of the comforts, luxuries, and securities we have today, we lose focus of what's really important.

You've got to live every moment
As though it was your last
Before the thief of always
Steals tomorrow from your grasp
Before the chance to know His love
Has somehow passed you by
Let your heart reach out
Right here, right now
For the Lord to touch your life

i feel like a fat tub-of-lard ... a fat, out-of-shape tub-of-lard

He giveth more grace
As the burdens grow greater
He sendeth more strength
As the labors increase
To addeth affliction He addeth His mercy
To multiplied sorrows, His multiplied peace

He love has no limit
His grace has no measure
His love has no boundaries
Known unto man
For out of His infinite
Riches in Jesus
He giveth
And giveth
And giveth again

This song was one a sang in elementary school ... I don't know if these words are correct, but the meaning of the song has been a great comfort to me time and time again.

From Michael, errr ... rather, from Michael's mom:

WHY DID THE CHICKEN CROSS THE ROAD?

PAT BUCHANAN
To steal a job from a decent, hardworking American.

JERRY FALWELL
Because the chicken was gay! Isn't it obvious? Can't you people see the plain truth in front of your face? The chicken was going to the "other side." That's what "they" call it the "other side." Yes, my friends, that chicken is gay. And, if you eat that chicken, you will become gay too.
I say we boycott all chickens until we sort out this abomination that the liberal media whitewashes with seemingly harmless phrase like "the other side." That chicken should not be free to cross the road. It's as plain and simple as that.

DR. SEUSS
Did the chicken cross the road?
Did he cross it with a toad?
Yes! The chicken crossed the road,
but why it crossed, I've not been told!

ERNEST HEMINGWAY
To die. In the rain.

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
I envision a world where all chickens will be free to cross roads without having their motives called into question.

GRANDPA
In my day, we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Someone told us that the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough for us.

ARISTOTLE
It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.

KARL MARX
It was a historical inevitability.

SADDAM HUSSEIN
This was an unprovoked act of rebellion and we were quite justified in dropping 50 tons of nerve gas on it.

RONALD REAGAN
What chicken?

CAPTAIN JAMES T. KIRK
To boldly go where no chicken has gone before.

FOX MULDER
You saw it cross the road with your own eyes. How many more chickens have to cross before you believe it?

FREUD
The fact that you are at all concerned that the chicken crossed the road reveals your underlying sexual insecurity.

BILL GATES
I have just released eChicken 2000, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your checkbook and Internet Explorer is an inextricable part of eChicken.

EINSTEIN
Did the chicken really cross the road or did the road move beneath the chicken?

BILL CLINTON
I did not cross the road with THAT chicken. What do you mean by chicken"? Could you define "chicken" please?

GEORGE W. BUSH
I don't think I should have to answer that question.

LOUIS FARRAKHAN
The road, you will see, represents the black man. The chicken crossed the "black man" in order to trample him and keep him down.

THE BIBLE
And God came down from the heavens, and He said unto the chicken, "Thou shalt cross the road." And the chicken crossed the road, And there was much rejoicing.

COLONEL SANDERS
I missed one?

tomorrow will not be a fun day ... physics midterm ... i hope i don't cry before my midterm like i did for the last one ... that'd be bad ... it would be a bad sign ... cry before the midterm, cry afterward. that's my philosophy. DON'T CRY BEFORE YOUR MIDTERMS EVERYBODY! You'll only be crying afterwards ...

I just got back from visiting Stephen's church, Chinese for Christ. It was pretty cool. I really like their Sunday School class. I think I've discovered, though, that my church is not very good about meeting the needs of the college/career group. It was totally different going to cfc because their focus seemed to be primarily ministering to college-age people. The worship set and the message seemed to accommodate the preferences of the collegiates. I sure can't wait until our college service starts. That will be COOL. Woo-Hoo! I really liked the songs they sang at cfc, too, even though I didn't know most of them. What I found the most unique about their service was their half-hour of fellowship in between services. That was pretty cool except for the fact the Stephen's a loner ... we just sat in the corner. boooooooooo. :-) hah hah. Well, I actually preferred that ...
